Best Ways to Reach Ladakh

In India, we face extreme heat and uneased climate in most of the cities especially if you are talking about the metro cities of the country. So, it becomes essential that we should choose a natural place to visit at least once in a year and if you are talking about the best ones then you should consider Ladakh in this list.

After the scenic ending scene of the Bollywood movie ‘3 Idiots’, this place contained too much hype and people are loving to visit this place. But rather than the destination the journey will be more exciting and extremely beautiful as you can explore multiple amazing destinations and natural places in the midway of Ladakh.

Now the question arises that from where and how you should start your journey to Ladakh. Well, these are the answers.

Ladakh by Air

This is the most convenient and easiest option if you don’t have much time to explore the midways or you don’t want to indulge yourself into challenging conditions.

You can directly take a flight to Leh which is only 3.8 kms away from the main city. Ladakh is a very popular city of India and is well connected with many major cities of the country. So, you can reach Ladakh by taking a direct flight to Leh as Air India as well as there are many private companies are facilitating this option.

Ladakh by Train

There are two ways to complete the journey to Ladakh by train but you should consider this thing that there are no direct trains to Ladakh and you have to take bus, cab or personal vehicle to complete your rest of the journey.

The first option is you can take a train to Jammu as Jammu Tawi Railway station is widely connected with every city of the country directly or indirectly. From Jammu, you can take a direct bus to Ladakh or can hire a private cab which will be more convenient if you are traveling with your friends or family.

Another option is you can take a train to Chandigarh which is directly connected with almost every major city of the country and can proceed with bus or cab as per your convenience to complete the rest of the journey.

Ladakh by Road

Well, this is the most memorable and popular journey which will be once in a lifetime experience for you. In my opinion, if you are planning for a trip like Ladakh then you should not bound your trip in timeframe because it will not allow you to explore the natural beauty of the journey completely.

Now, if you are considering a road trip to Ladakh then you can choose from these two options as per your convenience.

Via Srinagar-Leh Highway

This will be the journey you would looking for if you are a true nature lover and especially the mountain lover. But if you are choosing a road trip then be sure that you are not including children or older ones with you because it can be problematic for them to travel in extreme conditions with lesser resources.

Now as you have chosen the Srinagar-Leh highway to reach Ladakh then this journey will cover around 434 kilometres and it will take around 17 hours to complete. Again, during this journey you will cross multiple popular tourist destinations like Sonamarg, Dras, Kargil, Khalsi, Alchi, and Nimmu to reach Leh.

Srinagar is well connected with most of the major cities of the country and you can plan your journey accordingly as you want to continue with bus or hiring a cab. You can explore different destinations in the midway especially Sonamarg and Kargil. Apart from this, you should plan this journey between July and November because this is the period when this highway remains open mostly.

Via Manali-Leh Highway

Another beautiful and challenging road trip which is extremely famous amongst youth because it covers the beautiful mountain range or Manali, Rohtang and Keylong as well as beautiful Moore Plains which will steal your heart.

You can reach Manali via taking a bus from Delhi or Chandigarh and after exploring this beautiful city you can proceed with your ahead journey. You can hire a private cab or can hire a bike for making this trip adventurous. But you should fill your fuel tank full and keep some cash handy because in the midways you will not find ATMs and fuel stations most of the time.

This highway mostly remains open between mid- June to early – October, so plan your trip accordingly. As well as, if you are choosing this route then you should double check before starting your trip that Rohtang Pass is open for vehicles or not because this place experience heavy snowfalls and heavy landslides most of the time.

So, these are the options to reach Ladakh and you can plan your trip according to your convenience and be sure that you are packing all the essentials.
